How Baant compares.
Six popular apps, side by side, on the things people ask about most. Each competitor’s entry comes from its own website, store listing or code repository, linked below.
Checked on 1 October 2026. Apps change; if something here is out of date, the linked source is the place to check.
“Not stated” means the app’s own website or listing does not mention it on the date checked. The app may still offer it.
App by app
Splitwise
The best known app, on iPhone, Android and the web. Its free plan limits how many expenses you can add each day and shows ads; currency conversion, itemisation, receipt scanning, charts and search are part of the paid Pro plan.
Baant includes all of those in its free plan, adds UPI hand-offs, and imports your Splitwise groups from their CSV export.
Tricount
Free with no ads or limits, with multi-currency, offline use, payment requests and Splitwise import. It links to bunq’s card for logging card spending automatically.
Not mentioned on its site, and part of Baant: UPI, item-by-item bills, card statement rates, PDF and Excel exports, and a full web app.
Settle Up
Keeps a group’s expenses synced and shows who pays next, with apps for Android and iPhone and a web app.
Not mentioned on its site, and part of Baant: UPI, item-by-item bills, receipt scanning and fewest-international-payment plans for mixed-country groups.
Splid
Works offline with no sign-up, supports more than 150 currencies, and exports PDF summaries; Excel export and extra groups are paid add-ons.
Baant offers the same offline, no-account start, in a browser as well as on phones, with Excel export included.
Spliit
Open source and free, with no account and no ads. Groups are shared by link; it supports recurring expenses, categories, attachments and AI receipt scanning.
Spliit keeps groups in its online database; Baant keeps them on your device. Not mentioned on Spliit’s site, and part of Baant: frozen exchange rates, UPI, item-by-item bills and a tamper-evident history.
Niptao
Built for Indian flatmates, free, with UPI settlement through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and Amazon Pay, four ways to split, receipt photos and geo-tagging. Its site lists offline use as coming soon.
Not mentioned on its site, and part of Baant: 155 currencies with frozen rates, item-by-item bills, repeating expenses and exports. Baant also works offline today.
